CHOOSING AN EPIC NAME FOR YOUR ESCAPE ROOM TEAM

A few options you can browse through, and ideas to help you come up with your own…

Why?...You might be thinking.

Why go to all that trouble just to choose a name for our team?

Well, I’d tell you that coming up with a snappy team name can set the tone for your entire escape room experience…but that really doesn’t convey the importance of taking your time to choose the right name.

Here’s the thing: choosing the right name for your team is a lot of fun, and can really take your experience up a notch!

What is an escape room experience all about?

Well, you’ll say it’s about a lot of things: leaving behind your day-to-day life for an amazing escapade, starring in your own movie, facing a mission as the clock ticks down…and so much more.

But, one of the most important features of an escape room - what makes it so amazing - is that it’s a team experience.

A good escape room will always be designed to give every person in your group a role in the experience.

Unless you work as a team, interacting with and helping each other, you may not be able to escape the room within 60 minutes. This is a big part of how office teams benefit from doing escape rooms.

A snappy team name can create a sense of belonging

So, how do you build a strong team?

Well, a lot of that’s gonna happen in the escape room but you can make a start by choosing a name for the team that everyone identifies with.

It’ll give them a sense of belonging, create a “it’s us against the mission” feeling and inspire them to put their best foot forward for the team.

It isn’t true that nobody cares about the team name

Some folks think that nobody cares about what the name of their team is…next to the actual escape game, the team name is trivial.

Here’s the thing: just ask a group to come up with a name for the team, and see how long it takes for them to agree on one.

How should you go about naming your team?

Selecting a name for the team can be an experience in itself.

It can lead to a lot of animated discussion, and reveal interests and aspects of your teammates that you weren’t even aware of.

Here’s a process you can follow to choose your escape room group name:

  • Select a theme.

    • Key point: Do you want a general name (as in, based on the basic escape room idea, such as Escape Nation), or do you want the name to reflect your game theme, (such as The Vanishing Act, for a magic and magician themed mission)?

  • Give everyone two index cards and ask them to jot down 2 alternatives for the team name…and avoid writing their names (to make it anonymous).

  • Throw all the options in a bowl and then start counting.

Ask everyone to keep their choices short and sweet and to try to convey a message.

10 examples of catchy names for escape room teams

We’ve heard some of these ourselves (as a Seattle escape room that’s been around for a while we’ve heard quite a few); the rest we came up with, or read about somewhere.

  • Escape Artists - I think you get that this is a ripoff from perhaps the best-known escape room critics, but it’s an awesome team name all the same.

  • Gone In 60 Minutes - A bit cheesy, but conveys the message succinctly.

  • The Average-rs - A puntastic and self-deprecating take on a team name, this one’s popped up quite a few times on the internet.

  • Mission: Possible - Always good to enter your mission room with a spirit of positivity.

  • A Most Wanted Team - One for John Le Carre and/or Phillip Seymour Hoffman) fans! Could be a great pick for our spy themed escape room.

  • Pathfinders - Short, sweet and to the point.

  • Prison Breakers - A play on the well-known TV show and an apt choice for our prison break escape room.

  • The Whodinis - Great choice for a magic and illusions-themed escape mission.

  • Jeepers Keypers - Aimed at horror-themed escape room games.

  • Escape The Kids - If you’re a couple or a group of adults taking a much-needed break from the kids.
