Which question do you feel is the most important?
Things You Wanted To Know About Escape Rooms - Answered!

Why am I writing this blog, when I have a perfectly good FAQ page that answers the questions we get asked frequently about escape rooms?
Everything you wanted to know about s** - but were too afraid to ask

Ever since Woody Allen’s “Everything You Always Wanted To Know About *** (But Were Too Afraid To Ask)” was released in 1972 (if you can’t guess what *** stands for, look it up on Wikipedia)....
“Everything you wanted to know about…”, or “Things you wanted to know about…” have become a staple blog topic.

Think of this blog as me joining the bandwagon, paying homage to Mr. Allen.
Or, you can think of this blog as me answering a few questions that I feel occur to a lot of escape rooms fans...in a little more detail than I would or could on the FAQ page.
So, here goes…
How to explain escape rooms to someone who’s never heard of them?

As an escape rooms enthusiast, and owner, it floors me every time I encounter someone who has absolutely NEVER heard of escape rooms.
That sounds sorta familiar, right?
So, what’s the best way to get them all excited about escape rooms?
An escape room is an experience

You are led into an area that’s been set up to simulate a special situation - like a prison you’re trapped in, or a military bunker you need to break into.
You have a specific mission, like…
This is one of our actual missions.
Around the room are clues pointing you in the right direction. To find them, however, you’ll have to solve puzzles. You’ll have to accomplish tasks.
To win, you must find your way out within 60 minutes.
Immersion

It’s one of THE most important aspects of an escape room experience.
Immersion describes how well the players feel that they’re “living the experience”.
Take our Prison Break escape experience.
We’ve installed actual items from New York State Prison in the room.
It’s to enhance immersion, so players will feel that they’re inside an actual prison.
Are players locked inside the room?

Most escape rooms leave their doors open, and players can leave at any time.
Don’t panic about being locked inside the room.
An escape room is a whole lot more fun than simply having to escape from a locked room.
Escaping reality
An escape room grants players an opportunity to share an escape from their daily lives, from reality.
In fact, Scott Nicholson, an escape room scholar, tried to change the name “escape room” into something suggesting such a shared experience...but legal problems got in the way.
Are escape rooms scary?

Most escape rooms are more thrilling than scary.
Amongst our escape rooms, Zodiac Killer is a bit on the scary side, but there is absolutely no gore.
Scare factors are achieved by atmosphere-building (remember immersion?) and maybe the odd jump scare.
If on the other hand, you are a horror buff…

...you may want to look specifically for horror-based escape rooms.
Why choose escape rooms for team building events?

Any escape room game worth its salt will require the two C’s from players…
Collaboration, and
Communication.
That’s the entire point of team building, isn’t it?
Plus, as an exciting activity offering a break from the office environment, an escape room will incite every player to wholeheartedly participate, making it highly effective as a team building exercise.
Why choose escape rooms for birthday parties?

Google “places to have a birthday party near me”...ten to one you’ll get escape rooms near you as one option.
Why celebrate birthdays in escape rooms?
First, it’s a thrilling experience everyone will remember.
Second, there’s the inciting every player to participate thing.
Third, they’re safe.
Fourth, an escape room birthday party is very easy to organize. Many escape rooms will even help you with other party necessities like a birthday cake, snacks and so on.
Are escape rooms physically demanding?

Escape rooms are meant to test your observational, logical and out of the box thinking to the test.
They’re also supposed to boost your group’s capacity to work together as a team.
But they are NOT meant to test your physical stamina.
And they are NOT physically demanding.
As we also explain on our FAQ page, that’s what makes escape rooms suitable for pregnant women.
Do you need any prior knowledge to play?

You might need some general facts for some of the riddles but nothing too advanced.
An escape room is primarily a great experience, not a quiz contest.
What should one wear to an escape room?

Whatever you feel comfortable in!
Based on past experience, I’d suggest avoiding heels, and clothes that could impede movement, but apart from that, wear whatever you want to.
May one indulge in a little pre-game drinkie to liven the experience?

Trust me when I say you WANT to remain focused inside an escape room.
You’ll want to savor and remember every moment.
A drink won’t help you with that.
If you are looking for a little pre-game stimulation, I suggest a cup of...

Further, as we explain in our FAQ’s, if we feel players to be excessively “under the influence”, we reserve the right to refuse service without a refund.
So, there they are - commonly asked escape room questions, and our answers.
Now, it’s time for you to try one out!
